Sarasota County Expects to Receive More Than $210 Million in Hurricane Recovery Funding from HUD

Sarasota County expects to receive a new $210,094,000 allocation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to assist with recovery and mitigation efforts from Hurricanes Idalia, Helene and Milton and Tropical Storm Debby.
The Bay recently announced that it has raised $3 million in community gifts, unlocking a $2 million matching grant from Gulf Coast Community Foundation and totaling $5 million in funding—which then triggered an additional $1 million match from The Patterson Foundation.
The Florida Center for Early Childhood’s inaugural Wonder Gala on Dec. 6, 2024, raised more than $575,000 to support the organization's programs, which provide early education, developmental therapies, and mental health services to children and their families.
All Star Children’s Foundation recently received a $10,000 grant from Gulf Coast Community Foundation. The grant supported All Star’s annual Twinkle Ball, a community event dedicated to raising awareness and critical funding for All Star’s mission of bringing hope and healing to children who have experienced trauma.
The Manatee Community Foundation announced that it has awarded more than $65 million in funding since its founding in 1998. That total includes $31 million for human services needs, more than $15 million for education, $11 million for arts and culture, and $7 million for animal welfare and environmental causes.
Tidewell Foundation recently received a grant of $25,000 from the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation for the purchase of new hospital beds at Tidewell Hospice’s Arcadia Hospice House. The grant will help purchase new beds for the hospice house, which provides around-the-clock inpatient care for those requiring acute symptom management and care needs that cannot be managed in another setting.
Resurrection House, Inc., a day resource center for the homeless in Sarasota, has been awarded a $43,441 grant from the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation to convert the facility’s main conference room into a multipurpose space.
Three recent major gifts, totaling $375,000, have bolstered Safe Children Coalition’s Youth Shelter Campaign: the Leonard and Judith Schwartzbaum Foundation ($250,000); Siemer Family Foundation ($100,000); and Bank of America ($25,000).
The Manatee County Audubon Society recently announced it has been awarded a grant of $14,910 from the William G. & Marie Selby Foundation. The funds will be used to install picnic tables at the Felts Audubon Preserve in support of conservation efforts and the promotion of environmental education and appreciation.
The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce has received a $12,500 grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County to support the implementation of a new database system to streamline and enhance grant and application management processes.
