Sarasota, Manatee County School Districts Announce Reopening Plans

Sarasota County schools will reopen on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Manatee County schools will reopen tomorrow, Oct. 15.

Sarasota County Schools has announced that district-managed schools will reopen on Wednesday, Oct. 16. That day, as well as Thursday, Oct. 17, will be a regular day for students. Friday, Oct. 18, which was already earmarked as a Professional Day (non-student day) for district-managed schools.

The school district also announced that it is finalizing adjustments to the 2024-2025 school year calendar to account for the recent closures due to the hurricanes.

If your family is experiencing circumstances that may not allow your child to return to school for an extended period, the district encourages contacting the their school directly to ensure your child's educational needs are being met.

Sarasota County Schools Schedule This Week:

Tuesday, Oct. 15

No school for students: District-managed schools remain closed for regular school operations.

Wednesday, Oct. 16

District-managed school students return to school: This will be a regular school day for students.

Thursday, October 17

Regular school day for students.

Friday, October 18

Professional Day (non-student day): Friday was already marked as a Professional Day (non-student day). District-managed school students will not attend school on Friday.

Manatee County Schools

The School District of Manatee County will reopen to students tomorrow morning, Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024.

As of Monday, Oct. 14, all Manatee County schools have power, including Manatee Technical College. In the wake of the storm, the district said in a press release, its leadership asks that students and their families approach the reopening of school tomorrow as if it were the first day of school, noting that the timing of bus routes could be delayed and there could be unexpected outages of power or air-conditioning at various times and schools.

The district also said that quarter one grades will be finalized in a flexible manner that meets student and teacher needs; further information will be provided as the district progresses through the week.
