Meteorologist Ric Kearbey has joined the Climate Adaptation Center as a senior scientist.

The Climate Adaptation Center has named meteorologist Ric Kearbey as senior scientist. Kearbey joins Dr. Stu Waterman and CAC founder Bob Bunting as the organization's three lead scientists.

Amanda Kison, shareholder at Bentley Goodrich Kison, has been named president of the Sarasota County Bar Association.

Visit Sarasota County has announced its board of directors for the 2024 fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1. The 2024 executive committee will be Lorrie Liang, chair; Nick Mavrikas, immediate past chair; Richard Russell, vice chair; and John LaCivita, secretary/treasurer. The other members of the board of directors are Ron Cutsinger, Ann Frescura, Mark Gordon, Rick KonsavageKara Morgan, Mike Quillen, Wes Santos and Tim Self.

Manatee County Commissioner James Satcher has been elected chairman of the Manatee County Port Authority.

Cheri Coryea, Jim Cox and Bob Rosinky have joined the board of Second Heart Homes, which provides housing, support services and love to homeless adults with mental health challenges.

The Pickleball Club recently named Scott Brynski as the new general manager for its Lakewood Ranch location. 

Williams Parker added two new attorneys to its roster. Trevor Johnson began to work with the firm in May and Lorenzo Fernandez joined the firm in early July.

Ringling College of Art and Design recently announced new full-time and visiting full-time faculty appointments. Hershorin Schiff Community Day School has named Barbara O’Brien as its new K-4 interim director. 

Stephen High, executive director of The Ringling, has been appointed to the Accreditation Commission of the American Alliance of Museums (AAM).

Attorney Michael J. Wilson has been appointed to serve as director of the Long-Range Planning Committee of the Florida Bar Tax Section for the 2023-2024 year.

Sarasota County Tax Collector Barbara Ford-Coates has earned a Legacy Award for excellence in the field of financial operations.  The process involved for consideration of the Legacy Award is rigorous and includes a comprehensive review of the financial functions, records, practices, and use of technology of the tax collector’s office.

Tyler J. Brown has joined Icard Merrill as an associate in its Sarasota office.

New College of Florida has announced Allyce Heflin Moriak as assistant vice president, budget and administration. Additionally, the college named Kate Leavell as head coach for women’s lacrosse.

SimplyDwell Homes has added Christian Jennings to its team as area sales manager.

Sarasota County Schools recently announced that 29 students have been named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. They are Robert French, Alexander Masucci, Giovanni PatricioDorian Carter, Andrea Ciccone, Patrick Collins, Claire Critchett, Tian Jiao Doherty, Samantha Fineman, Lana Ghamra, Devin Gulliver, Amy Kim, Cyrus Kuhn, Sonia Legare, Andrew Lo, Sophia Lopez, Adriana Maiotti, Ava Pappas, Ella Pappas, Abigail Pereira, Niklas Pinto, Tristan Rans, Hannah Schuh, Kody Tran, Ethan Wang, Kathleen WuNathaniel Gruhl, Hayden Wilding and Addyson Domian.

The Sarasota Players has announced its board officers and members for the 2024 fiscal year. New to the board are David Sanders (secretary) and Helen Obs, who join William Porter (chair), Bill Rusling (vice chair), Joe Kaminsky (treasurer), Barry Godin, Brian McCarthy and Tom Tollette. Michael Brown and Terry Koslowski will serve on the group's advisory council.
