Hugh Culverhouse Inducted to University of Alabama’s Inaugural 1831 Society

The University of Alabama recently honored Sarasota County developer and attorney Hugh F. Culverhouse Jr. and his wife, Eliza Culverhouse, at an induction ceremony into the inaugural class of the 1831 Society. Named for the year the university was founded, the 1831 Society was created to recognize and celebrate the annual philanthropic commitments of alumni, parents, and friends who have taken a significant role in preserving, protecting, and promoting UA. The Culverhouses have cumulatively contributed more than $16 million to UA over the past decade.

The Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation is again celebrating the work of Sarasota County educators who go above and beyond through its 2023 Ripple Awards. Five educators each received a $5,000 check from the foundation—they are: DaVida Dagan of Glenallen Elementary School, Holly DeWitt of Brookside Middle School, Diana Eidel of Wilkinson Elementary School, Chelsie Jacob of Laurel Nokomis Middle School and Jeff Kahler of Suncoast Polytech High School

Omeza Holdings, Inc., an emerging company in skin regenerative medicine, announced the appointment of Cynthia L. Flowers as its new president and CEO. Flowers was previously CEO of Ipsen North America

Hershorin Schiff Community Day School—a Jewish day school that serves children of all faiths in preschool through eighth grade—has hired its first-ever middle school director. Dr. Vincent Miller, a former private school administrator and 2020 Polk County Teacher of the Year, will begin his tenure with Community Day School in July.

The School District of Manatee County has announced the following newly named assistant principals for the 2023-2024 school year: Scott Flynn, Daughtrey Elementary School; Mary Cooke, Prine Elementary School, Heather Rivero, Johnson K-8 School; Angela Young, Samoset Elementary School; Susan Ebbesmeyer, Palmetto Elementary School; and Shelby Bench, Barbara Harvey Elementary School.
