County Sets Week of Celebrations to Mark the Sarasota Centennial

Several local partnerships will commemorate the occasion.

To celebrate the official centennial of Sarasota County on July 1, the Sarasota Centennial Steering Committee is inviting the public to several local partnership events commemorating the occasion.

July 1

The Elsie Quirk Library will mark the Centennial with free family-friendly festivities including a to-go centennial craft project, historical presentations, and facts, along with cupcakes and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
 
The North Port Library is offering free centennial grab-and-go activity bags for adults and seniors.  Stop by the library from July 1-16 to get a bag filled with centennial-themed puzzles and crafts. Bags available while supplies last.
 
All Sarasota County Libraries will be offering free centennial activity bags and mini-cupcakes while supplies last.

July 3

The Selby Library will host a day-long free Centennial Celebration. From 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m., families can enjoy performances by the Sailor Circus. The Natalie Barber Quartet will present a 1920s jazz concert at 2 pm. Then, from 2-4 p.m. families can build their own versions of Sarasota at the LEGO Club in the library’s Geldbart Auditorium.

July 4

At the Venice Train Depot from 3-5 p.m., International Circus Ring of Fame clown ChuckO will showcase his World of ChuckO family entertainment event. This free event is for all ages.
