In recognition of Sarasota County's founding on July 1, 1921, Sarasota County Centennial 2021 has announced a year-long celebration. Established as a cultural and historical event for the region, the centennial celebration will feature a variety of activities, both in-person and virtual. The organization has also launched a partnership program, in which participating organizations can take advantage of publicity and branding opportunities at no cost. Sarasota County Centennial 2021 has a goal of securing 100 partners; current participating organizations include the Chamber Orchestra of Sarasota, Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System and the Lemon Bay Historical Society.

County residents can learn about the history of the movement to separate from Manatee County by reading Creating Sarasota County, a book written for the centennial by Dr. Frank A. Cassell. The centennial organization also maintains a lecture bureau for groups wishing to learn more about the county’s historical roots, as well as how to be part of the Centennial celebration.
