Hundreds of protesters gathered on a drizzly Wednesday afternoon and evening in downtown Sarasota to express outrage about the recent killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and other black men and women around the country. People wound their way from the Sarasota Police Department to Selby Public Library and City Hall and back, chanting, "Black lives matter," and, "No justice, no peace."

At multiple times, protesters paused to observe a reenactment of Floyd's death, which occurred when Minneapolis Police Department officer Derek Chauvin held his knee on Floyd's neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds. One protester pretended to press his knee into another protester's neck for nearly nine minutes, while observers circled them, first silently, and then with a rising chant of, "I can't breathe!" and, "Mama!" Those were among Floyd's last words.
