The Suncoast Nursing Action Coalition recently awarded $140,000 in nursing scholarships to 17 students to help address a shortage of nursing instructors in Sarasota, Charlotte, Manatee and Desoto counties. Most of the recipients are slated to graduate with their bachelor or doctorate degrees within two years.

The Patterson Foundation recently contributed $250,000 to the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, a national movement to increase reading proficiency among children in low-income families. The Patterson Foundation has provided more than $1 million so far.

Jewish Family & Children’s Service of the Suncoast recently received a $75,000 grant from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation to fund the organization's cancer support and wellness program, which provides counseling and support services for individuals and families affected by cancer.

The Sarasota County Bar Association's Diversity Committee recently selected Alexis Turner Garris and Tiffany Coleman as recipients of the 2017 Richard R. Garland Diversity Scholarship of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.

Dolphin Aviation owner Ron Ciaravella recently presented $1,000 scholarship awards to Bryana Mammana, Lisa Detert, Gabriela Cruz, Myasia Reyes and Nayeli Cruz. Ciaravella has been awarding academic scholarships to deserving recipients for the past 16 years.

Sarasota's Sam’s Club recently donated $2,500 to provide new technology for the veterans' services program at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota. The program serves about 300 students each year.

Pirates Charities recently made a $2,500 contribution to support the Bradenton Kiwanis’ Christmas in August Program. The event provides students with essential school supplies in addition to medical, dental and vision exams.

Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate CARES, the charitable arm of Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate, recently presented three checks for $2,967 each to SPARCC (the Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center), The Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and St. Martha’s Caritas.

Girl Scout Faith Holliday recently built an agility course for dogs at Donte's Den to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award a Girl Scout can achieve. Donte's Den is a rescue shelter that takes in all dogs and also takes care of the dogs of deployed military personnel.

Employees at Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate's central Sarasota office recently donated enough school supplies to help 125 local children during a back-to-school drive that supported The Salvation Army.

The Sarasota office of The Cleaning Authority recently partnered with Meals on Wheels Plus and collected over 375 pounds of food for the organization. Through the program, a brown paper bag was left in the home of each client with information about the campaign and a request for the bag to be filled between cleaning visits.
