Sisterhood for Good, a donor-advised fund of the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund, held its fourth annual grant distribution event on July 28 at the showroom of Affinity Kitchen & Bath. The giving circle awarded more than $3,000 to local nonprofits: The Sarasota Manatee Association for Riding Therapy, the Mark Wandall Foundation, Children’s Healthy Pantry, Meals on Wheels Plus of Manatee/Food Bank of Manatee and the Child Protection Center.

Wawa, the gas station and convenience store, recently donated $2,500 to Easter Seals Southwest Florida. The funds will provide children’s therapy for children in our community who are under-served.

The Seafood Shack Marina, Bar & Grill in Cortez recently donated $1,000 to the One Orlando Fund to benefit the victims and families of the shooting at Orlando's Pulse nightclub. The Shack participated in the statewide fund-raiser Dine Out for #OrlandoUnited on Thursday, June 30, by pledging to donate 10 percent of the day's sales. More than $750,000 total was raised by Florida's hospitality industry during the event.

The Sarasota County Bar Association's Diversity Committee recently announced the recipients of the 2016 Richard R. Garland Scholarship of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County: Dennis Adorno of Stetson University and Cindy Innocent of the University of Florida.

A handful of local businesses recently supported The Circus Arts Conservancy in various ways. The technology companies Cisco and World Wide Technology, Inc. supplied and installed wireless networking equipment for the Sailor Circus Arena arena and dressing rooms. Newk's Eatery, meanwhile, provided meals and snacks during events and performances, and Detwiler's Farm Market gave Sailor Circus and summer camp students fresh fruit every week during their training and performances.

The Women’s Council of Realtors Sarasota chapter will hold its annual fashion show at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Hyatt, 1000 Boulevard of the Arts, Sarasota. The event will include a live and silent auction. A portion of all the proceeds will be donated to Guardian Ad Litem.
