Drug-Free Youth is an incentive-based program in which students who agree to random drug testing will receive free or discounted items from small businesses in their communities. Hundreds of volunteer fundraising teams and thousands of individuals from around southwest Florida recently raised $1.1 million at nine Walkathon events supporting Southeastern Guide Dogs. The 20th Annual Phil Galvano Golf Classic will be held Friday, May 13, at the Legacy Golf Club in Lakewood Ranch to benefit Manatee District schools through the Manatee Education Foundation. The sold-out event has already raised $350,000, according to foundation executive director Mary Glass.

Twenty-five women will receive educational scholarships totaling $25,000 from the Women’s Resource Center of Sarasota County at 2 p.m. this Sunday, May 15. An awards ceremony and reception will be held at the center at 340 S. Tuttle Ave., Sarasota.

Residents at Sun-N-Fun, the RV resort located just east of I-75 off Fruitville Road in Sarasota, contributed more than 5,000 pounds of unwanted goods to Goodwill Manasota over the course of the past season. The donated items are now being sold in Goodwill retail stores, with proceeds supporting the organization’s mission of changing lives through the power of work.
