The 2015 Giving Challenge takes place next Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 1-2, noon to noon. During that 24-hour period, donors are encouraged to give to more than 400 local nonprofits, all registered with the Community Foundation of Sarasota’s Giving Partner database. Organizations have an opportunity to receive matching grants and other prizes, and many have developed partnerships with local businesses that contribute funds and promotional support during the event.

For the third year, PGT Industries  has awarded the Child Protection Center a $5,000 grant to help meet the needs of children and families who come to CPC for intervention and therapy after suffering abuse.  The funding also will assist CPC’s staff in providing education and training to protect children from abuse and build awareness throughout Sarasota and DeSoto counties.

The Adams and Reese Sarasota office, through a firm-wide “Back to School HUGS Initiative,” collected school supplies and backpacks for students in need at Visible Men Academy, a tuition-free public charter school in Bradenton that serves students in Manatee and Sarasota counties. The firm also provided a financial match for the donations of staff members, creating an additional fund to purchase a large assortment of additional supplies for both students and teachers, including pencils and paper, school uniforms (10 sets), even cough drops and tea for teachers.
