Good News Friday: Good Deeds - Aug. 21, 2015

The law firm Boone, Boone, Boone & Koda, P.A. donated approximately 445 pounds of computers and equipment to Goodwill Manasota for its Tech Connection program, which enhances digital literacy in the community by making technology more readily available and affordable. Items donated included four monitors, six towers, 10 keyboards, and miscellaneous wires and components.

 


 

Westfield Southgate has partnered with TreborStyle to present “Savor with Style” benefiting United Cerebral Palsy. On Thursday, Aug. 27, shoppers can donate $10 and receive a wristband to sample food from area restaurants. Sarasota Ballet will also perform throughout the evening.

 


 

Goodwill Manasota donated 50 books for Oscar Scherer State Park’s "Literacy Amongst the Trees" event on Sept. 5, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The celebration of International Literacy Day will feature storybook telling, book signings and sales, literacy activities and a book swap for all ages.

 


 

Gulf Coast Community Foundation awarded 375 scholarships totaling over $513,000 to 242 local students for the 2015-16 academic year. Recipients were all residents of Sarasota County, Charlotte County or Boca Grande pursuing higher education at an accredited university, college or technical school.

 

 


 

Bradenton Kiwanis Foundation provided a $50,000 grant to Turning Points for the expansion of its free dental clinic. A public dedication for the new “Kiwanis Room” will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 12:15 p.m.
