The Sarasota Police Department has been awarded $20,000 from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County for the Police Department Diversity Program and implementation of the Sarasota Police Department Recruitment Strategic Plan. The grant comes from the Willa and Robert Bernhard Fund and the McCauley-Brown Fund. The $20,000 grant will be used to sponsor three or more Sarasota Police candidate officers to criminal justice academy programs, including tuition, books and uniforms. Grant funds also will be used to purchase materials, travel fees, exhibit resources and promotional giveaways to send recruiters to a minimum of three recruitment events in the coming year.



All Faiths Food Bank received a $10,000 award from the Johnston Family Fund of the Manatee Community Foundation and a $3,500 grant award from the Dart Foundation. The funds will be used to feed families in need in Sarasota and DeSoto counties. The food bank also was recently selected to receive an Engaging—System Centric—Outcomes Award from The Patterson Foundation for its commitment and participation in Patterson’s Recoding Organizational DNA Initiatives.




The Riverview High School Kilties Band Boosters and the Education Foundation of Sarasota County announced the kickoff of a campaign to raise $165,000 for the new Andrew J. Crew Band Shell in the Riverview Performing Arts Center. Kilties president Deborah Dennis and donor Vince Vance presented the first $30,000 in matching funds. The Riverview High School Kiltie Boosters along with several other supporters are raising the money to cover the cost of the shell and installation. The school district has budgeted $85,000 to cover the installation of the rigging. They hope to have the project completed before the start of the 2015-16 school year.
