The Orioles presented a check for $40,370 to the Miracle League of Manasota following the fifth annual OreolesREACH Birdland Golf Classic at The Founders Club. Miracle League is an organization that provides everyone with opportunities to play baseball regardless of ability (read more in Sarasota Magazine’s Guide to Giving). The annual golf tournament, which funds the league’s operating budget for the year, has raised more than $165,000 since 2011.
Boar’s Head Brand donated 50 new bicycles to families in need through Heart of Florida United Way’s Emergency & Homelessness Services Division and the Salvation Army Sarasota. The bicycles were assembled by Boar’s Head Brand distributors during the company’s national sales meeting held in Orlando in late February. An additional $2,000 in donations was also raised to support the organizations. In addition to the Heart of Florida United Way, bicycles were donated to The Salvation Army Sarasota’s Emergency Financial Assistance office and Center for Worship and Service’s after school programs.
Cat Depot used a portion of its $25,000 grant money from Florida Animal Friend to help clean up a homeless camp in Sarasota. The nonprofit’s Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) Team gathered a total of 12 cats and kittens. Eight of the cats were returned to the site after surgery, while the four kittens were kept at Cat Depot and put up for adoption.
