Good News Friday: Good Deeds - July 25, 2014

The MSC Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Michael Saunders & Company, awarded $34,250 in mid-year charitable grants. Each grant is made possible through the participation of the company’s agents, who voluntarily donate a portion of the commissions earned on each real estate transaction; and by the staff and leadership team, who contribute through voluntary payroll deductions.  Each contributor may petition the Foundation for grants to the local nonprofit organizations of their choosing. Thirty-three nonprofit organizations in Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties received grants:

Gettel Automotive Family of Dealerships and Hope Kids Community have partnered in a "Back to School with Hope" community outreach mission to serve 2,000 children in Manatee and Sarasota counties who are in need of basic supplies due to homelessness or other circumstance. Goodwill Manasota received a $77,500 grant from the Ralph S. French Foundation to hire two additional coaches for the GoodPartner Coach Program, which provides persons with disabilities and other barriers to employment with job training, meaningful work and individualized case management.

 


 

Habitat for Humanity South Sarasota County received an $18,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to use toward the purchase of a RAM 2500 Promaster high-roof cargo van to deliver building tools, supplies and construction materials to separate building sites spanning Laurel to North Port.

 


 

Easter Seals Southwest Florida received an $11,600 Quality of Life grant from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. The funds will be used for completing the remodel of a restroom to include a lift system and emergency call lights, part of Easter Seals’ plan to create more space and accessibility for people with profound disabilities. The award was one of 73 grants totaling more than $537,500 awarded by the Reeve Foundation to nonprofits nationwide.

 


 

The Venice YMCA was recently awarded an $11,000 gift from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office for its after school programs. The funding will support the Y’s scholarship assistance for elementary and middle school students in the Venice area.
