The Animal Rescue Coalition received a $93,000 grant from PetSmart Charities for the purchase of medical equipment and supplies for ARC’s new clinic east of I-75 near the Fruitville Library. The new facility will make spay and neutering services more accessible to low-income pet owners in Sarasota, Manatee, Desoto and Charlotte counties and has the potential to nearly triple the number of procedures performed.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast has received several grants, including $16,000 from Publix Super Markets Charities; $1,000 from the Walmart Foundation and facility #3387; $2,600 from the Bearded Clam, Waterfront Restaurant and Tiki Bar; and nearly $17,000 from United Way Suncoast. The funds will be used toward the organization’s mentoring program for children.
The Sarasota 10U Cal Ripken team, comprised of 13-year-old boys, has emerged this season as District, Florida State and Southeast Regional champions, and is headed to the 10u Cal Ripken World Series in Winchester, Va. The team will be serving free hamburgers and hot dogs from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 2, at Shelley Carpets of Sarasota, 6050 Palmer Blvd., to raise funds to defray travel expenses. Employees from Lowe’s store #1843 in Bradenton helped renovate the Humane Society of Manatee County as its Lowe’s Heroes Program 2014 community service project. While the nonprofit typically uses its funds to renovate spaces directly affecting the animals it houses, the renovations by Lowe’s associates were in an area for Humane Society staff and volunteers.
