The 2014 Great American Cleanup will be held at various locations in Sarasota County from 8 a.m.-noon tomorrow, March 22. For more than 20 years Keep Sarasota County Beautiful has participated in the Great American Cleanup, resulting in a cleaner, safer and more beautiful community. The Women’s Resource Center of Sarasota County recently received a grant for over $21,000 to renovate four restrooms within its Sarasota office at 340 S. Tuttle Ave. Funding for this generous grant was provided by The Harry Sudakoff Foundation.

 


 

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota Go Manatees Relay for Life Team will host a fund raiser for the American Cancer Society at the SCF Manatees Softball game against South Florida State College at 5 p.m. next Tuesday, March 25, at SCF Bradenton. Fans will have the opportunity to play a ball drop game. The cost is $1 for three balls. General admission is $4; senior admission is $2. Admission is free for SCF faculty, staff and students. All admission and ball drop proceeds will go toward the Go Manatees Relay for Life Team's fund-raising efforts. The Village Idiots Cycling Club (VICC), an official nonprofit USA Cycling Club that serves as cycling advocates in the community and works to benefit local charities, will host the second annual Women on Wheels 100. The group ride event is for women only, free for all participants, and takes place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, starting from Lakewood Ranch Main Street. Any monies left over from sponsorship fees will add to the funds that VICC distributes at the end of the year to their designated charities.

 


 

Community Haven for Adults and Children with Disabilities, Inc. Adult Day Training program has purchased new plumbing fixtures and hand dryers for their Haven Industries facility with $2,800 in funding provided through the Sarah Greer Mayer Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. The Adult Day Training program has doubled its clients in the last 18 months, and the hand dryers and plumbing fixture upgrades will promote better hygiene with less environmental impact through the reduction of paper towel consumption.

 


 

Michaels on Main, a new art and fashion boutique opening in April, is hosting “Art Meets Fashion” from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2. A portion of the proceeds earned from sale of artworks, fashion pieces and raffles will be donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County. RSVP to Becca Smith at (941) 223-6643.
