Habitat for Humanity South Sarasota County presented Russell and Roberta Pettigrove, owners and operators of four Fifi’s of Venice locations with “Grateful Acknowledgment” plaques for each of their store locations. Fifi’s of Venice was honored by both the Habitat affiliate and the Habitat ReStores for demonstrating outstanding commitment to our community. The Pettigroves have partnered and donated with Habitat since June 2010, resulting in over $100,000 of goods being sold at the Habitat ReStore, enabling a new home to be built for a low-income family in our community.

The Paws in Motion Walk-a-thon at the Bradenton River Walk raised $61,000 for homeless pets at the Humane Society of Manatee County, $7,000 more than last year’s total. The top fund-raising individual was Melinda Cooper, who with her dog, Diesel, raised more than $3,000. The funds will be used to help pay for medical expenses, food and care.

Cat Depot is hosting its annual “Caturday Night Fever” fund raiser from 6:30-10:30 p.m. tomorrow, March 15, at the Sarasota Hyatt Regency. The disco-themed gala honors local veterinarians, and the recipient of the Outstanding Contributions to Animal Welfare award will be announced. Proceeds benefit homeless, abandoned and injured cats and kittens.
