Kroger, the former backer of the new-defunct Lucky's Market grocery chain, has purchased the former Albertson's site at 7415 Manatee Ave. W. in Bradenton, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal. Kroger, the largest grocery store chain in the country, paid $5.15 million for the property, which was originally planned to be a Lucky's location. It has not announced plans for the site; aside from a Harris Teeter grocery store in Fernandina Beach, Kroger does not have a presence in Florida.

Lucky's Market opened its Sarasota location in June 2017 and planned to open stores in Venice, Clearwater and Bradenton. However, in 2019, Kroger divested its ownership in the company, forcing it into bankruptcy. Lucky's closed in Sarasota in January 2020.
