The 2020 Jewels on the Bay Designer Showhouse, a fund raiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota, has been canceled due to permitting issues. 

"We did not do this without a lot of thought, unfortunately the homeowner is having difficulty obtaining his permits for the main house," a spokeswoman for the designer showhouse told us.

A historic red brick residence at 1319 S. Orange Ave. in Sarasota’s Bungalow Hill had been chosen for this year's Showhouse. As in past years, area interior designers were to have transformed the two-story main home and the two-unit clapboard guesthouse behind it with up-to-the-minute design trends. Both structures were built in 1930.

The Showhouse was sllated to be open to the public for tours March 15-April 12.
