Sales of new American single-family houses rose by 6.7 percent between April and May and by 14.1 percent between May 2017 and May 2018, according to new numbers published Monday by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Sales numbers rose between April and May mostly in the South, while staying flat in the Midwest and declining in the Northeast and West.
