Lakewood Ranch-based Halfacre Construction Company has been selected to build the new $3 million corporate headquarters for Caldwell Trust Company, which occupies four acres on a 10-acre site at 1400 Center Road in Venice. Jeff Matthews, AIA/AICP, and Mike Coviello, partners in Venice Design Group, designed the building, which is expected to be complete in November of this year. This building will replace Caldwell’s offices at 201 Center Road; the office at 1561 Main St. in Sarasota will continue to operate.

The 5,771-acre McCall Ranch had six bids at last Thursday’s auction, with only one bid—$13.9 million--for the whole property. The property is currently in federal bankruptcy after failing to attract buyers at its $36 million listing price. It was previously acquired by developer Brian Tuttle and other investors for $61.5 million in 2005. It is as yet undecided whether the bank will accept the bid.

James V. and Joanna M. Grace sold 10,500 square feet of DTE-zoned land to Tetra Terra Development, LLC for $425,000. John Harshman of Harshman & Company, Inc. represented the seller and Robert Morris of Premier Commercial Inc. represented the buyer.
