Rabbit Rabbit Owner Amanda Gilliland Hand-Selects Each Item for Her Rosemary District Eco Gift Shop

“At its core, Rabbit Rabbit is a gift store, but one that prioritizes healthy production practices. It’s about thinking about what we are buying, why we are buying it and where it is coming from.”

Every day, the Rosemary District grows a little bigger. One of its brightest jewels is the Rabbit Rabbit gift shop, where the store may be small (just 390 square feet) but the selection is mighty.

Located on Boulevard of the Arts, Rabbit Rabbit—named after a superstitious belief that saying “rabbit rabbit” on the first day of the month brings good luck—opened in 2022 and showcases gifts made by small-scale artisans, the kind even your most design-savvy friend will swoon over.

“I started the shop to bring products from indie artists and designers that prioritize eco-friendly materials to Sarasota,” says owner Amanda Gilliland. “At its core, Rabbit Rabbit is a gift store, but one that prioritizes healthy production practices. It’s about thinking about what we are buying, why we are buying it and where it is coming from.”

At the shop, you’ll find everything from handmade jewelry and other accessories to tableware, décor, candles, books and even clothes in every color of the rainbow. And if you need help, Gilliland assists everyone who visits, right down to suggesting that she wrap your purchase with a reusable tea towel.

There is, however, one rule at Rabbit Rabbit: You must love color.

Vitricca Iannazzi Blown Glass Mixing Bowls ($188)

Move over, Pyrex—this ain’t your mama’s mixing bowl. These hand-blown bowls come in an array of colors and would make an excellent showpiece, but keep them in the kitchen. The perfect little pour spouts are designed to be used.

Made in Guatemala from threads of recycled plastic, it’s hard to believe that one man’s trash can be spun into such a pretty (and functional) treasure.

Verloop Knit Placemat and Coaster Set ($68 and $28)

No two Verloop knit pieces are the same, and that’s because the company only works with leftover yarn that’s been rescued from garment factories where it would have been tossed. These bold colorblock designs are power-clashing showpieces.
