Downtown Sarasota is getting a new grocery store on the corner of Fruitville Road and U.S. 301, next to the Regal Hollywood movie theater. Sprouts Farmers Market, which has other locations throughout south Sarasota and Bradenton, will open on Sept. 6.

The store will mark its official opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6:45 a.m., and the first 100 customers will receive a free reusable tote bag filled with samples as they enter the store at 7 a.m. If you're not an eager early riser, however, the store will be celebrating all day with plenty of samples and a scavenger hunt.

Sprouts is an Arizona-based natural grocery store chain that offers organic produce, bulk goods, convenience meals, vitamin supplements and more. The chain operates more than 380 stores around the country.

Pro tip: When shopping at Sprouts, be sure to bring your own bags as the store charges 10 cents per plastic bag as part of its commitment to sustainability.
