The Meadows is a sprawling residential community in northeast Sarasota, with thousands of residents, 14 miles of walking and biking trails and, as of last month, one new farmers market.

"Our motto is to feed your mind, body and soul," says Ashley Millington, one of the market's cofounders also a co-owner of CMC Inc. Wellness, a wellness center located in The Meadows' cozy dining and shopping district.

The market kicked off in early October and operates from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday. Millington says the goal is for the market to remain open year-round, rather than shutting down in the summer, like some others—although the hours may be adjusted when the temperatures begin to rise again.

With 35-40 vendors already signed up, the market has drawn hundreds of people on the weekends. Those customers are snapping up traditional farmers market goods, like fresh produce, cheese, bread and art and other retail goods. Food trucks are also there to fix you a quick lunch. Millington says the market hopes to expand to 77 vendors eventually and aims to attract between 2,000 and 4,000 customers each week.

The Meadows Farmers Market sets up 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Sunday outside 5041 Ringwood Meadow, Building G, Sarasota. For more info, call (941) 315-7773, visit the market's website or follow the market on Facebook or Instagram.
