If you're interested in trying a new local restaurant at a discounted price, don't sleep on the Sarasota-Manatee Originals' ongoing gift certificate sale. The Originals, a coalition of dozens of independent restaurants in Sarasota and Manatee counties, is currently selling gift certificates to several spots at a 30 percent discount.

The cards range in value from $15 to $50, and each restaurants has a limited number of certificates on sale, so you might want to hurry. There are a few rules: You can't use the money on alcohol, tax or gratuity; you can only use one voucher per visit; the certificates can't be used on holidays or for special events or deals; and they must be used for dine-in meals. As the commercials always say: Other restrictions apply.
