Guy Fieri Brings Delivery-Only 'Ghost Kitchen' to Sarasota

Craving some 'donkey sauce'? You're in luck.

Guy Fieri.

Frost your tips and groom your goatee: A new delivery-only food service from Guy Fieri has hit Sarasota.

Dubbed Guy Fieri's Flavortown Kitchen, the service is part of the so-called "ghost kitchen" trend, in which food businesses offer takeout or delivery from commercial kitchens, without offering seating or service. The idea has been around for awhile, but kicked into high gear last year after the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Flavortown setup is part of a broader company called Virtual Dining Concepts, which partners with existing restaurants that have extra kitchen capacity to crank out delivery meals under a different banner. They often have celebrity connections. For example, there's Mariah's Cookies (a Mariah Carey brand), Tyga's Chicken Bites (associated with the rapper Tyga) and Mario's Tortas Lopez (billed as "coming soon" from Mario Lopez).

Flavortown's food is being made at 190 University Town Center Drive, Sarasota, which houses Brio Italian Grille near the University Town Center mall.

If you know anything about Fieri, you can probably guess what the menu is like. You'll find "jalapeño pig poppers" (roasted jalapeños wrapped in bacon, stuffed with andouille sausage and pimento cream cheese, and glazed with a barbecue sauce made with bourbon and brown sugar) and a burger topped with (deep breath) cheese, macaroni and cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onions, crispy onions, pickles and Fieri's "donkey sauce."

Or opt for "Cajun chicken Alfredo," which includes a blackened chicken breast served on top of pasta with Alfredo sauce and sun-dried tomatoes, and end your meal with the "cheesecake challenge," a slice of cheesecake topped with potato chips, crushed pretzels and fudge. Over the top? Of course. If you expected anything different, you must never have watched Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Guy Fieri's Flavortown Kitchen offers delivery from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily. For more info, visit the company's website.
