Taste of Asia’s Sand Storm Basa.Taste of Asia in Siesta Key Village has me hooked on several dishes, from the best dumplings in town (a.k.a. Lum-plings) to the Koor Mee Lao—rice noodles sautéed with onion, scallions, bean sprouts and cilantro. Both dishes feature the subtle flavors of Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. But step a forkful farther for my very favorite: the Sand Storm Basa, a fish fillet that’s marinated, then lightly breaded and fried. I recommend the red curry or ginger sauce with it; trust me, it’s a daydream of tasteful proportions. You can also order the basa steamed; just make sure you smother it with Chef Lam Lum’s incredible sauces.
