Nonprofits in Bloom 2026: Child Protection Center

It Shouldn’t Hurt to Be a Child.

Child Protection Center in collaboration with Sarasota Magazine Content Studio September 1, 2026

For a child to come to the Child Protection Center in distress and leave feeling safe, hopeful, and supported – this is why the organization exists. Since opening its doors in 1980, the Child Protection Center (CPC) has been a vital part of the community that makes up Sarasota and DeSoto Counties, working every day to break the cycle of child abuse and provide a safe space for children and families to find healing.

Every year, CPC reaches over 50,000 local children, families, and community members through child abuse prevention, intervention, and treatment services. The organization reviews 3,300+ local abuse reports, educates over 20,000 children on personal safety, and administers more than 4,000 hours of highly specialized, trauma-informed therapy each year- all at no cost to clients.

What the community’s support provides is a safe environment, compassionate care, and the tools for families to navigate some of the hardest moments of their lives and move forward with hope.

  • CPC’s popular Fall event, Night of Hope & Healing, takes place Thursday, Nov. 12 at the Venice Community Center with tastings from 10+ restaurants. Visit cpcsarasota.org/events for info.
  • Find free personal and internet safety resources for your family at cpcsarasota.org/resources.
  • Recognitions: Accredited by the National Children’s Alliance; named Nonprofit of the Year by the Sarasota (2015) and Venice (2019) Chambers of Commerce; recognized amongst Best of Florida, Best of SRQ, and Best of North Port.
