Dr. Amie Austin is a clinical psychologist with advanced training in neuropsychology and extensive experience supporting diverse populations across their lifespans. A dedicated advocate for mental health awareness, education, research and access to care, Dr. Austin believes that informed support and advocacy are essential to breaking stigma and empowering individuals on their path to wellness.
Marlene Hauck is a mental health, equality and veterans’ advocate who has 30 years of experience – 25 of those in the nonprofit realm – in fundraising, donor and community relations, and client and vendor relations. She assumed the leadership role with Sunshine From Darkness in 2022. Informed by personal experience as well as the struggles of others, Marlene has dedicated her life and, now, her professional career to breaking down the stigma that persists regarding mental illness; she is determined to refocus the cause on mental wellness.
Together – with critical support from the Sunshine From Darkness board and its caring and generous supporters – Dr. Austin and Marlene are committed to championing mental health wellness through transformative programming, education, collaboration and advocacy.
ABOUT SUNSHINE FROM DARKNESS
- Founded as a subsidiary of the Lee and Bob Peterson Foundation; dedicated to supporting mental wellness and breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness.
- Signature events are the Inspiring Hope Dinner and the Step Into the Light Mental Health Summit.
- Programs are focused on resiliency coping skills and empowerment, and mental health education.
