Children First: The Faces of Early Childhood
Image: Sarasota Magazine
For 65 years, Children First has helped shape the future of Sarasota County by strengthening children and families through comprehensive early childhood education and support services. Each year, more than 1,000 children and their families are served through high-quality early learning, health and developmental screenings, and family strengthening services that help caregivers build stability, confidence, and long-term opportunity.
This multi-generational approach addresses the root causes of poverty while helping children enter kindergarten ready to succeed. Nearly all families served face financial instability, making access to education, healthcare, and family resources essential to long-term community well-being.
This year also marks 30 years of leadership by President & CEO Philip Tavill, whose vision has guided Children First’s growth and impact. Supported by a dedicated Leadership Team overseeing programs, philanthropy, and organizational resilience, Children First continues leading the region in early childhood education and family support, ensuring every child has the foundation to thrive.
