For All Faiths Food Bank President & CEO Nelle S. Miller and Board Chair Patricia Courtois, community service has been a lifelong endeavor. Miller remembers stuffing envelopes at the tender age of three for one of her mother's causes and donating a third of her childhood allowance to charity. Courtois mirrored her parents' dedication to giving back by volunteering as a candy striper at the local hospital and, later, completing a mission to Haiti to help a village there.

The two are now laser-focused on ending hunger, which is shockingly prevalent in our affluent community. Each year, nearly 200,000 area residents need food. More than 50% of students in Sarasota County rely on reduced-cost or free meals. It's not just happening to "other people," somewhere else – hunger is closer than you think, perhaps even next door.

“People are hungry and we can help to mitigate that,” said Miller. “You simply can't do without food, and it's our responsibility to make sure people in our community have it."

“The fact that we experience hunger on such a grand scale in this country – let alone in our own community – I find unacceptable,” added Courtois.

Together with its partners, All Faiths provides more than 20 million meals annually through hundreds of monthly food distributions, in addition to services like benefits assistance, hunger screenings and nutrition education.

With decades of support for the food bank between them, Miller and Courtois are dedicated not just to feeding people, but to ending hunger in our community… forever. And they invite you to join them.
