Nonprofits in Bloom: Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe

Celebrating Black Heritage for 25 Years!

By Sarasota Magazine Content Studio August 26, 2024

The mission of WBTT is to produce professional theatre that promotes African American history and experience, engages a broad base of patrons and audiences, supports the development of a dynamic group of aspiring artists, and builds self-esteem in youth of color. As we celebrate our 25th Anniversary Season we are grateful for the many opportunities to train and mentor aspiring artists and youth and provide a platform for productions that celebrate the African American experience.

  • Mainstage productions run all season at our downtown Sarasota campus, and we provide numerous community outreach programs throughout the year.

  • Collaborating with established professionals, young artists hone and showcase their talents on WBTT’s mainstage and in community outreach productions.

  • Jazzlinks and Rhythm & Tales, WBTT’s touring education programs, have served thousands of students in the past nine years.

  • Stage of Discovery, a free five-week summer musical theatre program serving minority youth, culminates in a full-scale musical production.

  • Other offerings include a Young Artists Program, a New Play-wrights Showcase, and WBTT Voices, our free community forums.
