Nonprofits in Bloom: Harvest House

Sarah’s journey of resilience was magnified when the housing crisis struck. A 14-year Publix veteran, Sarah faced housing instability, moving between apartments and hotels and depleting her savings. The struggle peaked when she and her son lived in their car, silently enduring hardship to avoid attention.
Sarah recalls when they couldn’t access a bathroom in the middle of the night. She’d think, “You have to go back to the car and tell your son that life isn’t supposed to be like this and that you’re going to get him out of it.”
Hope arrived when Sarah was introduced to Harvest House’s Home Again program through her community at Publix. Harvest House welcomed her into a two-bedroom apartment, marking the first time she could offer her son his own room.
The program’s comprehensive support, a lifeline for Sarah, was instrumental in her success. It provided financial education, life-skill building opportunities, a community, and the chance to pursue a degree in Marine Biology. With Harvest House’s guidance, Sara is getting close to her dream of homeownership.
Sarah’s story powerfully illustrates the impact of community support. Will you help us continue this vital work? Your support ensures our doors remain open for the next individual needing our transformative services.
