WBTT 2026-2027's "Rhapsodies of Rhythm" theater season includes performances ranging from a Stevie Wonder revue to Shakespearean comedy.

Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe (WBTT) announced its 2026-2027 theater season this week. This year's theme is “Rhapsodies of Rhythm," and performances will span the gamut, from Shakespeare to a Stevie Wonder revue.

"'Rhapsodies of Rhythm’ celebrates a musically poetic changing of beats and the diverse sounds of jazz, pop, R&B and the blues," says WBTT artistic director Nate Jacobs.

Kicking off the season is Sophisticated Ladies, a Tony Award-winning theatrical
journey through Duke Ellington’s music, featuring the romance, humor and style of the time alongside hits like “It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing” and "Don't Get Around Much Anymore." The show runs Oct. 14-Nov. 22, 2026.

Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe will present its first-ever take on Shakespeare in the coming season with A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Next up is A Midsummer Night's Dream, marking first time WBTT has done Shakespeare. The comedy—set in a world of desire, mischief and fantasy—runs Jan. 13-Feb. 21, 2027.

How do you follow the Bard? With Beehive: The '60s Musical, a high-energy, ensemble-driven celebration of women performers told from the perspective of six young women coming of age during the fast-changing 1960s. Expect to hear songs like “My Boyfriend’s Back,” “Be My Baby,” “Son of a Preacher
Man,” and “Me and Bobby McGee,” and more. The show runs March 3-April 11, 2027.

WBTT wraps up the season with Stevie: A Stevie Wonder Revue, a new show
celebrating Wonder's best hits. The show is Jacobs' creation and will include songs like “Superstition,” “Sir Duke,” “Isn't She Lovely,” “I Just Called to Say I Love You,” “You Are The Sunshine Of My Life,” and more. Jacobs will also direct; the show runs April 21–May 30, 2027.

Not part of the official season, but a beloved holiday tradition, A Motown Christmas, WBTT's take on the holidays, also returns this year. Performances are Dec. 2, 2026-Jan. 3, 2027.

Showtimes for all performances are 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays, with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturdays and Sundays.

Subscriptions go on sale mid-summer, with an early order period for theater sponsors beginning late spring. Individual ticket sales will be announced at a later date. Click here for more information.
