Asolo Repertory Theatre has announced an expanded 2025-2026 season featuring eight shows, including work by Twyla Tharp, Billy Joel, E. Faye Butler and Lauren Gunderson, plus an adaptation of one of Agatha Christie's beloved novels and the Asolo Rep debut of the classic Fiddler on the Roof.

“I’m thrilled to share this dynamic collection of stories with our community, and to welcome some of the most celebrated artists of our time to create work on the Asolo stage," Asolo Rep producing artistic director Peter Rothstein said in a press release.

Here's a look at what's coming up.

Movin’ Out

Nov. 13–Dec. 28, 2025 (previews Nov. 13–20, 2025) at the Mertz Theatre

Renowned choreographer Twyla Tharp will spearhead a reimagined version the acclaimed Movin' Out at Asolo Rep. The show features music and lyrics by Billy Joel. "Reimagining a story, like revisiting a timeless piece of music, is an opportunity to see it anew—not just through a fresh lens, but through the evolving lens of who we are today,” Tharp said in a press release. “It's about exploring the past with the wisdom of experience and letting the talent of the present shape the narrative for a new generation. In a space like Asolo Repertory Theatre, we can nurture that process and connect deeply with a community that shares our passion for transformation and storytelling."

All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914

Dec. 3-19, 2025 (previews Dec. 3-4) in the Historic Asolo Theater

While fighting on the western front on Christmas, a German soldier sets down his rifle and steps into No Man’s Land, singing “Silent Night.” The gesture begins an extraordinary night of fellowship, music and peace, told in the words and the songs of the men who lived it.  Created by Peter Rothstein, The New Yorker called it "a heartbreaking tribute to the men who, in defiance of their commanders, had the courage to affirm their common humanity."

Primary Trust

Jan. 7-Feb. 11, 2026 (previews Jan. 7-8 , 2026) in the Mertz Theatre

One of the most-awarded off-Broadway premieres of 2024, Eboni Booth’s absorbing, funny, profound new play is about a middle-aged man scraping by in small-town America. Kenneth spends his days working in a quiet bookstore and his evenings sipping mai tais at the local tiki bar. But when he loses his job, he’s forced to confront a world he’s long avoided. "Eboni Booth’s tender 2024 Pulitzer-winner finds value in every life," raved the Los Angeles Times,

Agatha Christie’s The Mirror Crack’d

Jan. 21-March 14, 2026 (previews Jan. 21-22, 2026) at the Mertz Theatre

Former Asolo Rep producing artist director Michael Donald Edwards returns to the Asolo to direct this show, in which a Hollywood film star and her entourage descend upon a quaint English village to film an epic period drama. But when the glamorous opening reception ends in murder, everyone becomes a suspect—leaving Agatha Christie’s beloved sleuth, Miss Marple, to untangle a web of ambition, deceit, and stage fright. Adapted by Rachel Wagstaff, Christie's celebrated novel is finally getting the stage treatment.

The Unfriend

Feb. 18-March 22, 2026 (previews Feb. 18-29) at the Mertz Theatre

From the writer of Dr. Who, Sherlock and Dracula comes a hilarious new play about an unwanted house guest. After 20 years of marriage, Peter and Debbie are enjoying a cruise and a break from their annoying teenagers when they meet a friendly—but perhaps dangerous—fellow passenger named Elsa. Soon she’s taken up residence in their suburban home. Asolo Rep, with Peter Rothstein directing, will stage the U.S. premiere of this entertaining, satirical look at the lengths we go just to be nice.

Fiddler on the Roof

April 14–May 24, 2026 (previews April 14-16) at the Mertz Theatre

This beloved classic has delighted audiences across the globe for more than six decades. Tevye, the village milkman, is trying to provide his wife and their five daughters with a life filled with prosperity, faith and tradition. But a revolution is on the horizon and everything they've come to cherish hangs in the balance. One of the most beloved musicals of all time, it's Asolo Rep debut will be directed by Peter Rothstein.

Marie and Rosetta

May 6-31, 2026 (previews May 6-7 ) at the Cook Theatre

A huge influence on Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash and Jimi Hendrix, Sister Rosetta Tharpe—known as "the mother of rock 'n' roll"—was a legend of her time, adding fierce guitar and swing to traditional gospel music. Marie and Rosetta chronicles Tharpe's first rehearsal with a young protégée, Marie Knight, as the pair prepare to embark on a tour that will establish them as one of the great duos of music history.

Lady Disdain

June 6-27, 2026  (previews June 6-June 11, 2026) at the Mertz Theatre

This whip-smart, laugh-out-loud new romantic comedy from Lauren Gunderson is a riff on the dramatic world of fantasy romance novels. Beatrice and Benedict, rival audiobook narrators with voices made for swooning and tempers made for sparring, are locked in a battle of wits, words and, of course, wildly inconvenient attraction. Asolo Rep will present this rolling world premiere from Gunderson, who's made a name for herself as one of America’s most celebrated, funny playwrights.

Season ticket renewals are available now, with new subscriptions on sale May 12, 2025. Single show tickets will go on sale in September. For more information, visit asolorep.org or call (941) 351-8000.
