South Sarasota Modern Quilt Guild Presents 'Mid-Century Modern Astro-Futurism' Exhibit at The Ringling's Community Gallery

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art has announced a new exhibit, Mid-Century Modern Astro-Futurism, presented by the South Sarasota Modern Quilt Guild. The exhibition will be on view at The Ringling's Community Gallery in the Ting Tsung and Wei Fong Chao Center for Asian Art through April 2, 2025. The exhibit is inspired by the design and cultural trends of the 1950s and '60s.
Each year, the South Sarasota Modern Quilt Guild presents its members with an opportunity to challenge themselves, their skills, and their creativity with a group challenge. This year’s challenge was written by guild member Peg Normandin, with a fun twist on The Jetsons Cartoon Series.
“The South Sarasota Modern Quilt Guild is thrilled for the opportunity to exhibit our work at The Ringling,” says Bridget Pasternak, the guild's president. “Our incredibly talented members have put a lot of time and effort into these quilts, and it shows. We hope visitors will be inspired and delighted.”
“What an honor for our organization to be sharing our quilts at The Ringling with the Sarasota community,” says Peg Normandin, the guild's vice president of programming. “This was a fun challenge. It is such a good fit for Sarasota, which is known to have some of the most iconic mid-century architecture.”
The Ringling's Community Gallery, a free public exhibition space, is dedicated to displaying works from community-based non-profit or student groups in the local Sarasota/Manatee area, aiming to foster inclusivity and accessibility in the arts.
To check out Mid-Century Modern Astro-Futurism, visitors can check in at The Ringling's visitor pavilion and ask for a free Community Gallery wristband.
