World Circus Day

Ladies and gentlemen and children of all ages, it’s time to celebrate the art of the circus with this international day. Expect performances on the grounds of The Ringling at 1 and 3 p.m., circus-themed food and beverages available for purchase (there’s cotton candy and popcorn, too) and the premiere of Under the Big Top with Buster Bailey, a collection of circus aficionado Bailey’s many short films, in the Historic Asolo Theater. Heat Latin Jazz Band

You can groove to the rhythms of salsa and Latin jazz with music from this seven-piece ensemble featuring students from Florida Gulf Coast University and Florida Southwestern State College. Suncoast BBQ & Bluegrass Hoot ’n’ Annie

While they can’t present the usual big daylong bash this year due to Covid concerns, the organizers of this event (which benefits the Suncoast Foundation for Handicapped Children) are doing the next best thing. You can still dine on BBQ and enjoy live music (by the Grascals and the Swinging Bridge Bluegrass Band) outdoors at Fox Lea Farm in Venice, with limited seating available.
