Another sign that Sarasota’s arts and social calendar is attempting a return to normal during the times of pandemic: The Hermitage Artist Retreat has announced the dates for its two signature fund-raising events in 2020-21.

The announcement of the events—the Artful Lobster on Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Hermitage’s historic campus on Manasota Key, and the Hermitage Greenfield Prize Dinner, set for April 11, 2021, at Michael’s On East—is one of the first we’ve seen for the coming season, which would normally be packed with galas, luncheons and other events benefiting nonprofits. The news does, naturally, come with the caveat that “In the event of any changes due to COVID-19, further details will be announced.”

The Artful Lobster, now in its 12th year, serves as a kickoff to the season for many, and features performances by Hermitage Fellows along with a lobster feast. The Greenfield Prize Dinner, now in its 13th year, is part of a package including a six-week Hermitage residency and a $30,000 commission. The 2020 prize was awarded to visual artist Jennifer Packer, but the events surrounding the prize were canceled due to COVID-19. The 2021 prize will be presented to a theater artist.

By the way, the Hermitage is continuing its spring fund-raising campaign through June, with every gift being matched dollar for dollar up to $150,000. To make a donation, or to learn more about the Hermitage and its artists, visit hermitageartistretreat.org.
