Celebration of the Arts Coming Up Oct. 24
Time once more for the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County, and the community at large, to highlight the best of our cultural landscape with a Celebration of the Arts event, starting at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.
The celebration is, as always, a free event and open to the public. This year performances by Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe (excerpts from its current production of The Wiz), Sarasota Contemporary Dance (bringing to the stage choreographer Leymis Bolanos Wilmott’s Summer Days) and Sarasota Cuban Ballet School (a contemporary piece titled Childhood) will enliven the evening.
Recipients of the John Ringling Tower Fund Grants, State of the Arts Opportunity Grants, and Tourist Development Cultural/Arts Grants will also be announced. And guests will find out which of our local guiding spirits will be named winners of the annual Arts Leadership Awards.
A free wine and dessert reception follows the entertainment in the hall’s grand foyer.
This year, the event is also the official kickoff for InspireSarasota!, a new two-weeklong festival culminating in a day of live performances and wide-ranging food bites at Five Points Park on Nov. 5.
