Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday Starts Next Monday

Take advantage of the savings through Sunday, Aug. 7.

Summer is coming to an end, which means school will be back is session soon. Luckily, you can take advantage of Florida's annual back-to-school sales tax holiday and get ahead of the game. The holiday begins Monday, July 25, and ends Sunday, Aug. 7. Here's a list of items and supplies you can purchase that qualify for the sales tax exemption, plus a list of items that don't qualify:

Items That Qualify for the Back-to-School Tax Exemption:

  • Clothing, footwear and certain accessories (like wallets, handbags and hair accessories) with a sales price of $100 or less per item.
  • Certain school supplies with a sales price of $50 or less per item.
  • Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles with a sales price of $30 or less.
  • Personal computers and certain computer-related accessories (like headphones, monitors and software) with a sales price of $1,500 or less, when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use.
  • Learning aids like flashcards or other learning cards, matching or other memory games, puzzle books and search-and-find books, interactive or electronic books and toys intended to teach reading or math skills, and stacking or nesting blocks or sets. This is a new category added this year.

Items That Do Not Qualify for the Back-to-School Tax Exemption:

  • Any item of clothing with a sales price of more than $100.
  • Any school supply item with a sales price of more than $50.
  • Books that are not otherwise exempt.
  • Computers and computer-related accessories with a sales price of more than $1,500.
  • Computers and computer-related accessories purchased for commercial purposes.
  • Rentals of any eligible items.
  • Repairs or alterations to any eligible items.
  • Sales of any eligible item within a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment or airport.
