A native-born Floridian, this Florida State University and Stetson University College of Law grad is known for her southern accent and tough-as-nails courtroom presence. She dishes on her bold and vintage-inspired style and discloses some legal advice.
WHO: Deborah J. Blue, a shareholder at Dickinson & Gibbons, P.A., is a board certified marital and family lawyer and a founding member of the Sarasota Collaborative Family Law Professionals.
WHAT I DO: My day is filled with client consultations, meetings with financial professionals, depositions and court hearings. If a trial or collaborative meeting is scheduled, pre-event preparation occurs consistent with the complexity of the circumstances of any given case.
FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB: I advise the client through an emotional and difficult time in understanding the impact of the law on their financial situation. My job is to inform the client of the law and likely result at trial. This helps give them realistic expectations if we proceed to trial or during mediation or collaborative settlement discussions.
BEST PIECE OF LEGAL ADVICE: Litigation or collaboration is a process. Nothing happens overnight.
MY STYLE: My style is eclectic and colorful with a vintage-focused approach.
HOW HAS YOUR STYLE EVOLVED? It's evolved from a more conservative neutral-based palette to one that is more daring, colorful and expressive.
FAVORITE DESIGNERS: Dior, Dries Van Noten and Monique Lhuillier.
WHOSE STYLE INSPIRES YOU? Cate Blanchett.
STYLE TIP FOR WOMEN: Be confident in your sense of style. Rely on your intuition and be confident in your selection of accessories. Take risks.
STYLE MANTRA: More is more. Go big or go home.
MY GO-TO ITEMS: My Dolce & Gabbana silver reptilian pumps and silver Diorama Dior handbag.
MOST-PRIZED POSSESSION: Golden Stone ruby and opal earrings from June Simmons Jewelry in Sarasota.
GREATEST EXTRAVAGANCE? A Dries Van Noten synthetic faux fur jacket.
FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN: A Rebecca Minkoff sequined sweatshirt with a Rachel Zoe silver fringe skirt.
Deborah is wearing a dress and jacket by Akris Punto from Saks Fifth Avenue, Valentino heels, mini Diorever handbag by Dior, Kenneth Jay Lane vintage earrings from June Simmons Jewelry/House of Lavande, Dior Savane sunglasses, her mother’s 1962 diamond cocktail ring and an Italian gold and diamond wedding band.
