The Sarasota Concert Association Presents Two World-Renowned Orchestras on its Great Performers Series

The Sarasota Concert Association continues its tradition of enriching the region's cultural landscape with exceptional musical concerts.

The Sarasota Concert Association is proud to present two distinguished orchestras, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, from Prague, and the National Symphony Orchestra, hailing from Washington, D.C. at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall this season. These performances are part of the Sarasota Concert Association’s Great Performers Series, celebrating eight decades of bringing world-class music to the Sarasota community.

Czech National Symphony Orchestra

On February 13, 2025, at 7:30 pm, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall under the baton of conductor Jan Chalupecký. The evening’s program features Mozart’s Symphony No. 38, “Prague,” Dvořák’s Czech Suite, and Dvořák’s Piano Concerto, showcasing the talents of 21-year-old American pianist Maxim Lando. 

Czech National Symphony Orchestra

Founded in 1993 and based in Prague, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra has earned an enviable reputation among both Czech and Europe’s top symphonic ensembles. Renowned for its versatility, the orchestra annually presents a broad program ranging from classical music concerts to contemporary genres, film scores, jazz, and musicals.  

Maxim Lando, the featured pianist for the evening, is an international competition winner who has performed with numerous orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Moscow Philharmonic. His sold-out recitals at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center have captivated audiences and received widespread praise.

National Symphony Orchestra

On March 24, 2025, at 7:30 pm, the National Symphony Orchestra from Washington, D.C., will perform under the direction of Music Director Gianandrea Noseda. The program includes Carlos Simon’s Four Black American Dances, Beethoven’s iconic Symphony No. 5, and Brahm’s Violin Concerto featuring three-time Grammy Award-winning violinist Hilary Hahn.  

National Symphony Orchestra

Founded in 1931, the National Symphony Orchestra has a rich history of performing at the Kennedy Center and around the world. Under Noseda’s leadership, the orchestra has embarked on new initiatives and expanded its repertoire, reaffirming its commitment to artistic excellence.  

Hilary Hahn, renowned for her virtuosity and interpretive insight, has been described by The New York Times as “a daring mature artist eager for new collaborations and repertory.”

These concerts provide a unique opportunity for Sarasota audiences to experience performances by two of the world’s leading orchestras featuring acclaimed soloists and conductors.
