On January 18th and 19th, the Key Chorale Chamber Singers reimagine the music of pop’s great storytellers Simon and Garfunkel, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, and others through the artistic genius of the Lubben Brothers Band. Triplet brothers Michael, Tom, and Joshua bring their acoustic folk roots to a concert celebrating rich vocal harmonies, timeless melodies, and unforgettable stories.
Part Key Chorale’s on-going American Roots series, Storytellers, centers on those singer/songwriters who have a unique way of bringing the listener into their stories of love, the open road, and even a famous shipwreck. The concert features many favorites including, Simon and Garfunkel’s “Scarborough Fair” and “Homeward Bound,” “Fire and Rain” of James Taylor, Jim Croce’s “Time in a Bottle,” and Gordon Lightfoot’s “Carefree Highway,” and the iconic “Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.”
Triplets and high-energy acoustic musicians, the Lubben Brothers specialize in tight vocal harmonies and an eclectic blend of folk instruments involving banjo, mandolin, guitar, fiddle, tin whistle, accordion and hammered dulcimer. Diving into classical music at a young age, their modern songwriting style merges folk roots with complex pop ideas.
“In addition to performing custom arrangements of some of my favorite pops songs,” said Maestro Joseph Caulkins, “We will also be performing original charts by the Lubben Brothers with our Chamber Singers. They are natural storytellers whose down to earth songs just draw you in.”

Although the brothers were trained and play classically it is their love of folk that brings them together along with their joy of sharing their stories and the songs that have shaped them. Originally from the farmlands of Iowa, the brothers now reside in Nashville, Tennessee. They have been featured on NPR’s “Live from Here’ with Chris Thile and Netflix’s premiere film, “Love Hard.”
“This will be our third collaboration with the Lubben Brothers,” said Maestro Caulkins. “They have become one of our favorite guest artists as they open up so many genres we can explore, and this one is sure to be a memorable collection of magical music and vibrant storytelling.”
