Sarasota Concert Association Presents A Special Holiday Concert with Canadian Brass

Their virtuosity is astounding, and you can expect the unexpected in their fun and always memorable performances!

Presented by Sarasota Concert Association November 7, 2023

The world’s most famous brass quintet, Canadian Brass is bringing their wildly popular holiday concert to Sarasota’s Opera House on Monday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m., performing festive favorites, from Carol of the Bells to A Charlie Brown Christmas, swinging Glenn Miller tunes, and more.

Celebrating 50 years of success, Canadian Brass has toured all over the world, and has made 138 recordings for which they received 24 Grammy and Juno nominations.

Their concert in Sarasota will not be their first time in our sunshine city: “For eight years Canadian Brass was resident in Sarasota and the Ron Romm family (who is one of the original members) resides in Sarasota to this day,” founding member Chuck Daellenbach tells us. We will also meet Canadian Brass’ newest, and first female trumpet player – Ashley Hall-Tighe!

“The Canadian Brass was in residence at the Music Academy of the West in 2001 when young Ashley Hall was a student there.  She stood out as an outstanding performer and we followed her stellar performing career as well as her contributions to mentoring people in their own lives and careers. When the trumpet position came open in our group this summer we contacted Ashley, knowing she would be a natural fit for the rest of us,” states Chuck.

Current members include trumpet players Ashley Hall-Tighe and Joe Burgstaller, who has performed thousands of concerts across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and performed as a soloist with more than 50 orchestras. Playing the horn is Jeff Nelson, who has thrilled audiences and mentored students for over thirty years and has performed concerti with orchestras on six continents. One of the most celebrated trombonists of his generation, Achilles Liarmakopoulos is the current trombonist of the Canadian Brass. And finally, tuba player & founder Chuck Daellenbach has brought music, imagination, and humor to Canadian Brass since the group was formed in 1970, playing a key role in all of the group’s groundbreaking projects.

Single tickets start at $35 and can be purchased online at SCAsarasota.org, or through our box office at (941) 966-6161.
