If you’ve recently lost you job and are listening to the government suggestion that you “find something new,” well, here’s an idea. Open a little store in Bradenton’s Village of the Arts and sell your art work. Or your pottery collection. Or floral printed face masks that you make yourself. The possibilities are endless.

This live/work situation has a lot going for it. Downstairs you’ll find several rooms of gallery space and upstairs are your living quarters. Out in back is a pretty tropical garden where you could serve tea and pastry, socially distanced of course.

The house was built back in the 1920s and still has a lot of character and original details. You’ll find a fireplace, nice wood floors, a front porch and lots of period touches. The newly remodeled kitchen is particularly nice, as are the two bathrooms. And the house is a generous 2,275 square feet.

The Village of the Arts is specially zoned enclave near downtown Bradenton where you’ll find perhaps five or six square blocks of similar older homes that have been fixed up to provide a shopping and eating venue for locals and tourists. The artists try to outdo each other with the whimsy they incorporate into the design of their property, and bright color schemes and unusual signage blanket the area. There are various promotions to attract customers, including art walks and a Frida Kahlo look-a-like contest, and the city may even give you a grant to improve your façade.

1215 12th St. W. is priced at $269,900. For more info, call Maryann Lawler of Wagner Realty at (941) 587-4623.
