Kendra Newman, vice president of operations at World Precision Instruments, knew her Monday through Friday work wardrobe was stuck in casual weekend mode. A shopping trip sparked a whole new outlook for Kendra on how to reform her daily style and take a chance on color.
KENDRA’S GOAL: “I wanted to update my look. I was getting lazy and taking for granted the fact that my office doesn’t have a formal dress code. Also, because I am out in the sun a lot, my skin is fairly tanned, so I don’t bother to wear much make-up.”
JACKIE’S GOAL: “Kendra needed not only to refresh her overall look, but to add color to her wardrobe, since she wears a lot of black. Black is a great color and it’s easy, but for most of us, not around the face. Since there is no formal office dress code I wanted to get her into something that was business savvy, yet not too stuffy. At 5-foot, 10-inches and with an athletic figure, Kendra can wear bold pattern and chunky jewelry and not get lost underneath it all. Proportion is a key element in your overall look—always evaluate how accessories and pattern relate to your frame. My ultimate goal was to find a dress with a structured cut, firmer fabric, color and simple styling. This dress had everything I wanted, plus Kendra can wear it through spring and summer, and even for fall, paired with a nice lightweight cashmere sweater.”
KENDRA’S TAKE: “When I first looked at myself I couldn’t believe it was me. When I went back to the office I felt more confident and professional. I loved it! I think everyone needs to check in with themselves every so often and make sure they are putting their best look out there. I try to do it myself occasionally, but having others help me get out of my box was great.”
