Mango Mania

Toasted Mango Is Open in the Rosemary District

After six months without a downtown Toasted Mango, it’s back in a new space, with a new cocktail menu.

In 2011, best friends Kim Duffy and Sandi Wagner opened Toasted Mango, a breakfast joint, on North Tamiami Trail. It swiftly became a downtown favorite, with crowds lining up to wait for a table. Duffy and Wagner went on to open up two more locations on Siesta Key and Anna Maria Island, too.

Back in November, Duffy and Wagner closed the original downtown location—but late last week, they opened the new and improved Toasted Mango in the Rosemary District.

“The opening was a little chaotic,” Wagner says, citing a few appliance mishaps that have since been resolved. “We saw so many regulars yesterday. We had all our [returning customers who would sit at the counter] here. They had been waiting for six months to come back.”

The new Rosemary District location boasts the same menu as the former North Trail location, complete with breakfast and lunch favorites and, of course, its award-winning waffle topped with mangoes, coconut and whipped cream. The new location also has a full liquor license, so guests will also find a new cocktail list.

“We’ve put together a cool cocktail menu,” Wagner says. “While we’ve developed the recipes, we’ve kept in mind how we can mimic them with wine-based spirits at our other restaurants that don’t have [a liquor license].”

The 147-seat restaurant is located in the Parkside property, which also houses Origin Pizza, Great Heights Creamery and Arts & Central.

“We can’t wait to see people sipping on bloody marys while waiting for a table in the Parkside courtyard,” Wagner says. “We're thrilled to be back downtown and thrilled to be open.”

Toasted Mango is open from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. seven days a week at 1371 Boulevard of the Arts. For more information, click here.
