There were many variations of black and white attire on display at "Because the Night," this year's Orchid Ball at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. That's because the theme of the event was tied to the current exhibit there, Robert Mapplethorpe and Patti Smith: Flowers, Poetry, and Light, which features several of Mapplethorpe's famous black and white photos, in addition to archival pictures of the two artists, poetry and lyrics by Smith, and more. Guests dined on charcuterie, scallops and prawns and chateau of beef while enjoying live music after strolling through lighted pathways to the party tent.
