Florida Studio Theatre: Three Pianos

FST continues its reopening schedule with this original cabaret show featuring pianists Michael Maricondi, Madalyn McHugh and Nygel D. Robinson and highlighting hits by songwriters known for their way around a keyboard, like Elton John, Carole King and Billy Joel. Venice Theatre: 2020: The Year That Almost Was

Another theater starting to present live shows again, VT presents an original cabaret from music director Michelle Kasanofsky, joined by Mikal Mancini on piano and bass and Joel Broome on drums. You’ll get to hear songs from shows the theater was planning to produce last year but had to cancel due to the pandemic. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. each evening; safety protocols in place. The Hermitage Artist Retreat: “Storied Stories of the Creative Process”

Sarasota Magazine’s own Mr. Chatterbox, Robert Plunket, is joined by longtime friend (and author and New York Post theater columnist) Michael Riedel in this candid conversation about famed artistic projects in their early development. (BTW, have you read Riedel’s latest, Singular Sensation: The Triumph of Broadway? A must for theater junkies.) Sarasota Orchestra: Death and the Maiden

Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota: Ventures in Brass

More music, this time highlighting brass musicians Aaron Romm, Alan Evans, Robert Moore, Joe Offner and Joseph Alvarez—members of the Venice Symphony Brass Quintet. Set for 3 p.m. outdoors at Nathan Benderson Park, with a program running the gamut from classical to pop, including selections from Bach, Handel and the Beatles. Venice Symphony: Resound, Resilience

While we’re talking about the Venice Symphony, it’s presenting the final concert in its free four-concert virtual series this week. Sarasota Concert Association: Musically Speaking

Another season ender, this virtual conversation/concert featuring chamber orchestra Academy of St Martin in the Fields becomes available starting at 7 p.m., highlighting works by Messiaen, MacMillan, Bach and Mozart. BLVD Bike Ride

Another free event, open to everyone who enjoys riding a bike (with helmet and mask, of course) around town. Specifically, cyclists check in at 5 p.m. in front of The Bay’s Blue Pagoda on North Tamiami Trail; the ride around downtown begins at 5:15 p.m. Bike rentals available, too. Register here.

Sarasota Challenge 2021 Ballroom Dance Competition

March 27 and 28

Dancers from all over compete in a variety of styles, in pro/am divisions, in this 13^th annual event, taking place at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota. It all opens to the public at 4 p.m. Saturday with seminars, cocktails and more; Sunday is a day full of dancing, culminating with a performance by headliners Asta Sigvaldadottir and Andrei Kozlovsky.
